A doula accompanies a woman in labor, provides emotional and physical support, suggests comfort measures, and provides support and suggestions for the partner. Whenever possible, the doula provides pre- and post-partum emotional support, including explanation and discussion of practices and procedures, and assistance in acquiring the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about her care. International Breast Milk Project
International Breast Milk Project helps new moms in the US join the fight against disease and poverty by providing an avenue to donate breast milk to infants in Africa. In just two years, the organization has grown from one mom to over 920 donors and over 119,965 ounces of donor breast milk provided for infants affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. This is equal to over 29,000 feedings for infants. IBMP has also raised thousands of dollars to support local health care initiatives in developing countries, which includes supporting the development of local milk banks. The organization has recently been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC World News, Good Morning America, and Time.com
